The Problem with Wax

Car wax has been around for over a century. It works — in the way that a paper umbrella works. It provides temporary, limited protection that washes off, degrades in UV light, and needs reapplying every 6–12 weeks if you want any real benefit.

For a car parked outdoors in Watford's weather — rain, road salt, bird droppings, tree sap — wax offers minimal protection against the things that actually damage paint.

What Ceramic Coating Does Differently

A professional ceramic coating like our Nano Banana system chemically bonds to your paint at a molecular level. It doesn't sit on top like wax — it becomes part of the surface. The result is a semi-permanent protective layer that:

  • Lasts 3–5 years vs 6–12 weeks for wax
  • 9H hardness — harder than your car's clear coat
  • Hydrophobic — water beads and rolls off
  • UV protection prevents paint fade
  • Chemical resistance against bird droppings and road salt

What Ceramic Coating Doesn't Do

Ceramic coating is not magic. It won't hide existing scratches, swirl marks, or paint defects — it seals them in. This is why we always recommend at least a Quick Refinement (machine polish) before ceramic application. You're sealing in perfection, not problems.

It also won't prevent all stone chips. For that, you need Paint Protection Film (PPF). Many clients choose both — PPF on high-impact areas (bonnet, front bumper) and ceramic over the entire car.
